Answers about piano tuning

The questions customers ask me most often. Yours not here? Feel free to write to me.

How often should a piano be tuned?
A piano in normal use should be tuned at least once a year – ideally twice: once after the heating season in spring and once in autumn. Concert instruments and heavily used pianos need more frequent tuning.
How much does piano tuning cost?
Standard tuning costs €178.50 incl. VAT. If the pitch has drifted significantly, a pitch correction of €89.25 is added. Travel is free within the Allgäu and Freising service zones. A detailed overview is on the Pricing page.
How long does a tuning take?
A standard tuning takes approx. 60–90 minutes. With an additional pitch correction allow 2 to 2.5 hours, as the piano is tuned in two passes.
My piano hasn't been tuned for a long time – is that a problem?
No, in most cases even a long-neglected piano can be brought back into shape. A pitch correction is often needed, sometimes in multiple sessions. I assess the condition on site and discuss the best approach with you.
Which instruments do you tune?
I tune and service upright pianos and grand pianos of all common brands – including Steinway, Bechstein, Bösendorfer, Yamaha, Kawai, Schimmel, Sauter, Förster, Ibach and many more.
Where is your service area?
Allgäu Zone covers the greater area around Frauenzell (Kempten, Kaufbeuren, Memmingen, Leutkirch, Isny etc.) – up to approx. 30 km driving distance, travel free. Freising Zone extends up to 30 km from Marzling (Freising, Erding, Moosburg, Garching etc.) – also free. Further areas on request. Details on the Service Areas page.
How do I book an appointment?
Fastest by phone or WhatsApp at +49 157 3846 8427. You can also email via or use the contact form.
What are your qualifications?
I completed my apprenticeship at Steinway & Sons Munich (2017–2021) and then worked there as journeyman piano technician – both for private customers and for concert tuning (including Gärtnerplatz Theatre Munich). Several advanced training courses at the Steinway factory in Hamburg round out my profile. Self-employed since 2024. More on the About page.
Do you tune to 432 Hz?
Yes, I tune on request to any pitch between 432 Hz and 445 Hz. A pitch change from the existing tuning costs €89.25 incl. VAT in addition to the standard tuning.
